Olivem 1000 has been granted approval by ECOCERT France for use in cosmetic products certified according to Ecological and Organic standards.
INCI: Cetearyl Olivate (and) Sorbitan Olivate
FORM: Off white flakes
USAGE RATES:
•Low Viscosity (serums and lotions): 1.5 - 3%
•When used alone at 5%, without the addition of other lipids, it forms a light ‘gel-cream’ emulsion
which is perfect for facial products or light body lotions
•High Viscosity (lotions and creams): 3 - 8%
Olivem 1000 is a PEG-free, non-ionic, mild self-emulsifying and thickening compound for use in oil-in-water formulations. It can be used as the sole emulsifier in products containing up to 25% lipids without stability being affected.
Olivem 1000 is naturally derived from Olive Oil, which has a high affinity for the skin.
Emulsions are based on liquid crystal formation, whereby liquid crystal structures are generated whose walls are made of alternating layers of fatty acids and water that mimic the stratum corneum intercellular lipid matrix structure. The liquid crystals can physiologically integrate into the skins’ lipid barrier, helping reinforce its integrity, preventing water loss and reducing damage from environmental factors. It also aids the delivery of active ingredients into the skin.
The liquid crystals also reproduce the crystalline structures of the skins’ light-reflecting cells (iridophores), acting as microscopic mirrors which polarize light to emit luminescence, thus helping brighten the skin.
Due to the formation of liquid crystal structures, the HLB (Hydrophile-Lipophile Balance) system is not critical for formulating emulsions with Olivem 1000.
Olivem 1000 is compatible with a wide variety of cosmetic and active ingredients over a wide pH range (3 to 12).
It has been clinically tested to be hypoallergenic and is thus perfect for sensitive skin. It offers deep hydration and is good for mature or dry skin. Olivem 1000 produces creams with excellent spreadability and a silky feel.
The Sorbitan Olivate constituent provides easier dispersion for powders. For example, UV filters and pigments are easily dispersed at high percentages.
